Statue of Paul van Vliet

A statue of him will be unveiled today in The Hague, the hometown of comedian Paul van Vliet. Van Vliet died in 2023 at the age of 87. The statue, created by The Hague sculptor Loek Bos, has been fully funded through crowdfunding.

The Residentie Orkest had the pleasure of working with the very musical and talented comedian and singer on many occasions. Already in the 1960s our paths crossed in an interview Paul van Vliet had with our chief conductor Willem van Otterloo in honor of the 65th anniversary of the Residentie Orkest. In the late 1990s we traveled with him across the country during a weeks-long and sold-out Tour de Chant with some of his most beautiful songs. We also gave several more New Year's concerts with him at the Zuiderstrand Theater. Unique moments in the history of the Residentie Orkest with a unique man.
