Schulhoff Recording Honored with Gramophone Editor’s Choice Award

The album *Menschheit* by the Residentie Orkest has been honored with an Editor’s Choice award by the international music magazine *Gramophone *. This is a wonderful recognition of the recording of Erwin Schulhoff’s orchestral works, conducted by principal conductor Jun Märkl and featuring mezzo-soprano Barbara Kozelj.

The album, released by Challenge Classics, brings to life the versatility of the Czech composer Erwin Schulhoff. At its heart are the vocal symphonies *Landschaften* and *Menschheit*, two long-forgotten works in which loss, humanity, and hope converge. The music was recorded live at Amare.

In its glowing review, *Gramophone* praises the performances, highlighting in particular Barbara Kozelj’s interpretation, Jun Märkl’s accompaniment, and the exceptionally clear recording quality. According to the magazine, this new recording of the song cycles is even the most highly recommended one to date: “All of the performances are excellent.” Gramophone also calls Barbara Kozelj’s performance “the one to have.”
