RO x Joep Beving

One of the world's most-listened-to living pianists joins forces with the Residentie Orkest The Hague

Joep Beving, one of the most listened-to living pianists in the world, joins forces with the Residentie Orkest The Hague. The pianist we know for his minimalist and introspective compositions is collaborating with an entire orchestra for the first time. The result can be heard on September 28 & 29, 2024 during a special Symphonic Junction at the Concert Hall in Amare.

Pianist Joep Beving has been making a big impression since 2015 with his minimalist and introspective compositions, or in his own words ''accessible music for complex emotions.'' Beving's music fits into the neoclassical piano movement to which Olafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm also belong. He manages to add a completely individual intimacy that makes him considered a true sensation within contemporary classical music.

"It is a wonderful opportunity for me to bring new music to audiences that I never have the chance to do solo. My thanks to the Residentie Orkest for the trust and this opportunity is great!"

It's going to be a special night. Among other things, you will hear work from his Henosis album and, of course, a nice cross-section of everything he has made in recent years. For the orchestration, Joep will be assisted by arranger Gijs Kramers who will also take charge of the musical direction.

Joep Beving: "Corona nipped the live experience of my album Henosis in the bud. It's fantastic to finally be able to bring some of the pieces from that album back on stage and still in an arrangement for orchestra. In addition, it is a wonderful opportunity for me to bring new music to the public that I never have the chance to do solo. We are still fine-tuning the program but I also hope to present some premieres. My thanks to the Residentie Orkest for the trust and this opportunity is great!"

Sven Arne Tepl, general & artistic director of the Residentie Orkest: "In our cooperation with the iconic pop podium PAARD we have been presenting special, exciting encounters between our orchestra and artists from other genres for more than a decade. On our joint wish list has long been a collaboration with pianist and producer Joep Beving. Joep plays with sound and silence, is spiritual and minimalist, and in a very special way a community arises during his performances. Precisely because of its simplicity and meditative nature, this is also a very different kind of project for us."
