Residentie Orkest plays for neighborhood residents Benoordenhout

Music on Your Doorstep

On Saturday, Sept. 17, Residentie Orkest visited the Benoordenhout neighborhood of The Hague with Music at your doorstep . Encouraging encounters and connection is central to the neighborhood programming. Over 120 local residents listened attentively in the Duinzichtkerk to works for flute and harp by Bach, Fauré, Andriessen, Debussy and others. In between, flutist Martine van der Loo and harpist Ernestine Stoop talked about the repertoire and the history of the flute and harp.

The concert attracted mostly single senior neighborhood residents, but couples and some parents with children also took seats in the wooden benches. Among those present were also companions with residents of Evita Lokaal.

"What a wonderful initiative by the Residentie Orkest to play close to the people. Our residents can't go so far from home anymore, their world is getting smaller. That they can attend a classical concert within walking distance is fantastic."

- Supervisor Evita Local

Afterwards, people could join the church's chapel for a healthy and enjoyable lunch provided by the local supermarket.

The Music at your doorstep-performance in Benoordenhout involves free programming for neighborhood residents created in collaboration with Wijkvereniging Benoordenhout and the Duinzichtkerk. Music at your doorstep is part of Symphony 2030, the social programming of the Residentie Orkest, in which musicians go out into the city throughout the year to bring music close to the people.

A new Music at your doorstep-performance for family caregivers Segbroek and possibly from other neighborhoods will take place on Tuesday, November 8. This performance is in celebration of the Day of the Informal Caregiver.
