Album release: Orchestral Works vol. 4 by Toshio Hosokawa

Toshio Hosokawa is today's most important Japanese composer with fascinating worlds of sound. Record label Naxos releases Volume 4 of Hosokawa's orchestral works, played by the Residentie Orkest conducted by Jun Märkl in collaboration with trumpeter Jeroen Berwaerts and violinist Paul Huang.

The fourth volume in Hosokawa's series of orchestral works, in which he was present at all the recording sessions, includes two concertos and two orchestral works. The Trumpet Concerto 'Im Nebel,' inspired by Herman Hesse's poem, evokes a vision of man and nature, in which the trumpet slowly and magically melts away into the orchestral fog. Inspired by a birth, the Violin Concerto "Genesis" places the soloist as human protagonist in a universal drama of finding harmony through conflict. Sakura is one of Japan's most beloved songs, arranged by Hosokawa for orchestra, and Uzu exhibits unique orchestral sounds.

"We have long been intrigued by the work of Toshio Hosokawa. He creates the most fascinating worlds of sound and is one of today's most relevant composers. We feel obliged to record that repertoire for the international community of listeners. Together with Jun Märkl, one of the strongest advocates of Hosokawa's music, this is a very worthwhile project.
