Residentie Orkest Join Orange the World

This year, the “ Residentie Orkest ” is joining “Orange the World,” the global campaign against violence against women and girls. Through music, personal stories, and community events in neighborhoods across The Hague, the orchestra is raising awareness about an issue that affects us all.

From November 25 through December 10, the world turns orange. During this period, organizations around the world raise awareness about ending violence against women and girls. The “ Residentie Orkest ” is also contributing to this effort. Four female string players are taking to the streets of The Hague with a special program that combines music and personal stories.

Violinists Hester van der Vlugt and Phoebe Rousochatzaki, violist Jieun Kim, and cellist Justa de Jong will give four performances at various locations in The Hague. Featuring works by female composers, among others, they will demonstrate how music can move people, bring them together, and create space for stories that need to be heard.

Music Brings Stories Together
The performances will feature more than just music. Between musical pieces, neighborhood residents, experts by experience, and other stakeholders will engage in conversation with one another. This creates space to share experiences, listen to one another, and reflect together on the meaning of Orange the World.

The performances are part of “ RO in the city,” through which the “ Residentie Orkest ” brings music to the people, especially outside the “ Concert Hall.” Because music can connect people where words sometimes fall short.

From the neighborhood to the Concert Hall
On Friday December 4, Orange the World will also be featured at Amare. During the concert by the Residentie Orkest , attention will be given to the campaign, and speakers from the neighborhoods will be present as special guests. In this way, stories from The Hague’s neighborhoods come together at the Concert Hall , and the message of Orange the World gains an even bigger stage.

This project is a collaboration with Haags Verhaal, Theater De Vaillant, Vadercentrum Adam, STEK, and The Hague Library.
