Sustainable in Amare
Hague artist designs unique linocut for Residentie Orkest
As of season 23/24, Residentie Orkest will no longer give flowers to the conductor and/or soloist after a concert. This no longer fits within the orchestra's sustainability goals. The Hague artist Mariska Mallee was asked to design a linocut to offer as a gift from now on.
According to Mallee, "the print perfectly reflects the vision of Amare: an open building, facing the city, accessible to all and a breeding ground for various art forms working together and inspiring each other. Amare is a place to come together, to push boundaries and to experience art in all its facets."
The essence of Mariska Mallee's work revolves around a sustainable future in which art plays a leading role in driving new ideas and creative thinking. It is a call for boundless thinking, stepping beyond shadows and collaboration between technology, nature, science and art. Art acts as a crucial connector and without art, life would be colorless and soulless. Art permeates society in such a profound way that we do not realize what we are missing until it is absent....
This print has the power to tell stories and challenge people to rethink old patterns. The three colors of this series of linocuts are imbued with meaning: black and white of contrasts, deep red of passion and fire, bright green of hope and of nature. These colors resonate with emotion and symbolize hope, strength and harmony. They form a poetic harmony reminiscent of the melodies of Dvorák, Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev that are now on the program at Amare .
Created exclusively for the Residentie Orkest, this series embodies an overarching theme of sound and rhythm, manifested in both round and sleek forms. After careful consideration, a design was chosen that is in line with this harmonious concept. The complete series consists of 150 linocuts divided into three colors with an edition of 50. The black linocut is titled Just vibration. Other titles are Passion (linocut red) and Hope (linocut green).
This unique series of linocuts, with their varying color palette, is an exclusive addition to the artistic heritage of the Residentie Orkest at Amare. A convergence of music and visual art, of passion and hope, of harmony and renewal, for the Residentie Orkest's own meaningful journey.
