An era has come to an end

An era has come to an end, Louis is no more. Our orchestra looks back with melancholy, but also with much gratitude on the many moments with his music and with Louis in the house visiting at rehearsals and concerts.

The connection between the Residentie Orkest and Louis Andriessen has existed since 1971. In fifty years, the orchestra has played numerous works by Andriessen. Some highlights were the recordings of "Mausoleum" (1979) for the second compilation box "400 years of Dutch Music" (1982 edition) and the world premiere in 2013 of "Vroegste herinneringen" for 75-year-old Reinbert de Leeuw. As recently as 2019, the orchestra paid tribute to the then 80-year-old Louis Andriessen in the form of the impressive suite based on Andriessen's opera "Writing to Vermeer.
We are grateful for the beautiful moments with Louis and his music. We wish his family and friends much strength.
