New contrabassoon

The contrabassoon is a true spider in the web within the orchestra. With his octave lower sound than his immediate colleague, the bassoon, he brings depth and warmth to the orchestral sound. During large symphonic works by Beethoven, Mahler and Shostakovich, among others, he proactively makes himself heard. Due to our current contrabassoon reaching retirement age, the Residentie Orkest was in urgent need of a new one. This one has since been purchased through the support of generous donors.

A new contrabassoon for the Residentie Orkest
We have been overwhelmed by generous donations to purchase a new
contrabassoon for the Residentie Orkest . Combined with proceeds from the Friends Concert, a total of €25,618.50 has been raised!

But doesn't a contrabassoon cost almost €40,000?
That's right: a contrabassoon is more expensive than the amount raised. Because of the 75th anniversary of the Association of Friends, they are supplementing the amount as an anniversary gift to the orchestra.

When can we hear the contrabassoon ?
The order for the new contrabassoon has been placed. When it can be heard for the first time depends on the supplier. We will of course keep you informed about this.
