When I was a kid, my parents thought I played too much soccer...and bought me a violin.
2015
Sergiy Starzhynskiy studied violin at the L. Van Beethoven School of Music in Kharkiv and the I.P. Kotlyarevsky Fine Art Institute with Mark Mogilevsky, Adolf Leschinsky and Grigory Kuperman. In 1993 he received his master's degree with specialization in solo, chamber and orchestral playing. He later continued his studies at the Conservatory of Ghent with M. Kugel.

Sergiy Starzhynskiy won prizes at various competitions, including the international Golden Autumn chamber music competition in Kiev and the quartet competition in Ghent. He participated in such competitions as the Jozef Szigeti Competition (Hungary), the Tibor Varga Competition (Switzerland) and the Premio Paganini Competition (Genoa, Italy).
As a soloist, he performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Kharkov, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Lugansk and the Symphony Orchestra of Kharkiv. After his studies, he worked as Associate concertmaster with the Kharkiv State Opera Orchestra, after which he joined the Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Radio Chamber Philharmonic.
In addition to his orchestral work, Sergiy regularly plays solo and gives several chamber music concerts.
