More about Roger
I started playing the cello because of a cassette tape of French cellist André Navarra (1991-1988). As a little boy, I played this every day. My current instrument by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume was provided to me by the Dutch Musical Instruments Fund.
1995 (tutti) and 1998 (solo cellist)
Royal Conservatoire The Hague at The Hague with Godfried Hoogeveen (Teaching and Executive Diploma).
Bruckner and Richard Strauss
Is also a teacher at Royal Conservatoire The Hague in The Hague and Codarts Rotterdam and a bus driver for Doelen Coach Service (drives for Royal Conservatoire The Hague and Hannick Reizen, among others).
What do I like to listen to?
I love listening to all of Bruckner's symphonies (my grandfather played a lot of Bruckner and I loved that) but Richard Strauss' works are also high on the listening list, the highlight being 'Don Quixote'. In it all emotions come together and I have had the opportunity to play this piece with orchestra several times already, it remains a great experience to perform together every time. What should not be missing from my list is Dvorák's Cello Concerto. Especially the performance by Mstislav Rostropovich is wonderful. During my studies I had the opportunity to have yearly lessons from him. Not only a great cellist, but also a fine human being.
Besides playing the romantic-classical works and operas, I really like the fact that our orchestra also makes productions for every person from The Hague, as we recently did with DI-RECT and in the past, for example, with Paul van Vliet and Karin Bloemen.
