What do I like to listen to?
My favorite violin concerto is Beethoven's. It is more of a symphony for orchestra and violin, which combines the two sides of music that I love the most: the symphonic with the soloistic.
One of my favorite symphonies is Brahms' Fourth . It is full of Brahms' finest orchestral sounds as well as brilliant solos. The flute solo in the fourth movement is very close to my heart.
The first time I played Richard Strauss' Ein Heldenleben, I thought it was one of the best compositions for orchestra. It also has one of the most beautiful sections ever written for the violin group, as well as a great violin solo. What more could you want!
Finally, Le Sacre du Printemps by Stravinsky. I was first introduced to this work as a child thanks to the Disney movie Fantasia. It is probably the first modern I ever listened to and it still has that shocking for me.
