I started The Hague String Trio in 2006 and I still play in it with great pleasure. It gives me a perfect balance with playing with the orchestra.
It is very difficult to choose a composer, but I often return to certain composers: Bach, Mozart, Schubert and Brahms to name a few. Often I am just completely in love with the music I am playing or listening to at the time, whatever it is. Wonderful is that!
What do I like to listen to?
Mozart - Adagio from Violin Concerto No. 3 in G (KV 216) by Christian Tetzlaff (violin) and Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.
Me and my husband chose this part to play at our wedding in 1997. We had been looking for something for a very long time and this recording had just been released at that time. I still love that one but it also has very fond memories for me because of that.
Bach - Goldberg Variations by pianist Glenn Gould.
Bach has to go with it and it is almost impossible to choose anything but the Goldberg Variations played by Glenn Gould continue to fascinate.
Beethoven - Cavatina from String Quartet No. 13 in B-flat, op. 130
My greatest love is for chamber music, and little comes as close to perfection as this movement by Beethoven.
Brahms - Intermezzo from 6 Klavierstücke, op. 118, no. 2
I had to analyze this Intermezzo by Brahms as a student in London. I really loved this. Later I went on tour with the Deutsche Kammerakademie with Radu Lupu in Italy. He played this Intermezzo as an encore and it felt as if Brahms himself was playing it and that he had made it up on the spot. Magical.
