More about Mathilde
2022
Master harp at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp with Sophie Hallynck, further studies at the CNSM of Paris with Isabelle Moretti. Orchestra academy at the Münchner Philharmoniker with Teresa Zimmermann.
An impossible task to choose someone ... at this point, Ravel does come very close to being a favorite!
When I was four years old, one of my older sisters started playing the harp. I found it very fascinating AND she was the only one who let me try her instrument. When the time came to learn an instrument myself, the choice was quickly made, despite attempts by the other sisters to "let everyone play something else"... I then had nine years of lessons with Eline Groslot at the Conservatory of Bruges.
What am I listening to?
De Falla - Danza española 1 from La Vida Breve. This is one of my earliest musical memories.
Bartok - Concert for Orchestra. This piece was one of my first major orchestral projects as a first harp, at the Paris Conservatory. And consequently the week I got a taste of orchestral life!
Renié - Ballade fantastique. A great piece, based on a horror story by Edgar Allen Poe, where the harpist pulls out all the stops! Henriette Renié was one of the most virtuosic harpists in history and a talented composer. Unfortunately, she remains a noble unknown outside the harp world.
