Simone Lamsma in Shostakovich
'Fantastic how Shostakovich creates an atmosphere,' Simone Lamsma said a few years back when her recording of the First Violin Concerto came out. 'Because he incorporates his own grief into the piece, it is very personal, and therefore deeply moving.' Today, the acclaimed Lamsma is soloing at the Residentie Orkest The Hague.

Brahms
Brahms' First Symphony had a run-up of many years. It didn't help that Brahms' surroundings (and secretly he himself) expected him to be a "tenth Beethoven. It kind of became that. The symphony has a heroic character and has several references to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. But above all, it is very much its own, with two beautiful slow movements. The next three symphonies, by the way, would emerge much more quickly.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances, our regular guest conductor Jun Märkl cannot come. We are delighted to have found an excellent replacement in conductor Lawrence Renes.
