Our chief conductor Anja Bihlmaier concludes her first season with one of the greatest works in music history: Giuseppe Verdi's Mass for the Dead. Masterfully, opera composer Verdi knows how to merge large choirs and solo voices - from the most intimate dynamics to the greatest drama.

With Verdi's Messa da Requiem, tenor Luciano Pavarotti celebrated his breakthrough. Truly everything about this piece is spectacular: raging emotions, unprecedented intimacy, ferocious sounds, impressive brass. Moreover, for the first time this season, the Residentie Orkest performs a large symphonic choral work, with a choir of more than a hundred singers on the balcony surrounding the orchestra.

"Music is about emotions, it's up to us to translate all that wonderful repertoire as engagingly as possible."

- Anja Bihlmaier
