Slow, dark and groundbreaking
Tchaikovsky's Pathétique
Unfortunately, this concert has already taken place. But not to worry! We will be playing many more concerts soon.
The Residentie Orkest already made extensive acquaintance with conductor Jader Bignamini at De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam in Puccini's Madama Butterfly. That led to the desire to work together in a symphonic program. Tchaikovsky's Pathétique is the result.
The concert begins with the moving Prayer for the Ukraine by Ukrainian composer Valentin Silvestrov. With this symphonic prayer, our thoughts stay with the unbearable situation in Ukraine and realize that peace is a great good in which we must constantly invest.
After that, we perform Shostakovich's mysterious Second Cello Concerto , with cello soloist Leonard Elschenbroich - regular guest at the Residentie Orkest. Combined with Tchaikovsky's Pathétique, his best-known and Last symphony. Be taken on a journey that summarizes an entire life, with the music literally dying away more and more in the Last movement. Slow, dark and groundbreaking. The ideal program to end the first season together in Amare large symphonically.
