Residentie Orkest ft Roos Meijer
Unfortunately, this concert has already taken place. But not to worry! We will be playing many more concerts soon.
Songwriter and musician Roos Meijer is one of those types you need to change the world: talented, creative and interested in social issues. For the Residentie Orkest the time is therefore ripe to offer this young talent a stage in PAARD. Live, she leaves a great impression with her dynamic set, special stories, distinctive writing style and pure performance. For this special night, her songs will sound in an orchestral version. Expect melancholic alt-folk that touches the heart, and that in a classical setting.
From a young age, Meijer has felt the urge to express herself through music and words. She lends her music to unheard stories of people from all over the world. Her EP "Maktub" was about refugees and for her debut album she drew inspiration from conversations she had with "changemakers"; people who are actively working for society.
"Ominous violas, the strum of an acoustic guitar and the beautiful voice of Roos Meijer working her way through the barren landscape of instrumentation."

Prior to this Symphonic Junction, enjoy a supporting act featuring Notes, Beats & Bars.
At Notes, Beats & Bars, improvisation takes center stage. Music takes shape during jam sessions with rappers from The Hague HipHop Center and musicians from Residentie Orkest. From an exploratory interplay, music and lyrics are conceived and developed under the artistic direction of jazz violinist and composer Tim Kliphuis. The result is an exciting exchange between the two different musical worlds of rap and classical music, responding to current themes brought in by the rappers themselves.
In this preliminary program, the themes of mental health and stress in young people, sustainability, poverty from the child's point of view and the human condition are addressed in 4 different raps that together form one "Rhapsody. During the jam sessions, the musicians came up with music that could fit the different themes of the raps. For example, fragments of Shostakovich can be heard with the theme about stress and chaos in the head, and the melody of Smetena's Moldau fit nicely with the theme about sustainability.
