For the first time, conductor Anja Bihlmaier is at de Doelen. She brings with her: her Residentie Orkest, South Korean star pianist Yeol Eum Son and twice Ravel. Twice Ravel? Yes, because it is this orchestration of Ravel in which Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition is best known. Combining it with his piano concerto, Bihlmaier is playing with two extremes of Ravel, which have one thing in particular in common: a mad sense of timbre.
