The Sunday Morning Concert

Unfortunately, this concert has already taken place. But not to worry! We will be playing many more concerts soon.
Pianist Boris Giltburg opens the new season The Sunday Morning Concert of The Concertgebouw and AVROTROS with Ravel's jazzy Piano Concerto in G. A work that brings him "pure joy. The Residentie Orkest The Hague, directed by Anja Bihlmaier, also plays Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.
Boris Gilrburg plays Ravel's Piano Concerto in G
Pianist Boris Giltburg was already once the 'house artist' of the Residentie Orkest The Hague and has maintained a warm relationship with the ensemble directed by Anja Bihlmaier ever since. Together they open the new season The Sunday Morning Concert of The Concertgebouw and AVROTROS. Giltburg will solo in the jazzy Piano Concerto in G by Ravel, one of his favorite composers. On his blog, he writes how the work gives him "pure joy" as a performer. Because of the exuberant energy that flows through it, but also because of Ravel's typical melancholy, which never gets heavy on the hand.

Anja Bihlmaier also leads Mussorgsky's flowery Pictures at an Exhibition. The composer takes the listener through a number of images of French city life, Russian fairy tales and the Polish countryside. Mussorgsky wrote the colorful piece for piano, and there are many equally colorful arrangements of it. Ravel's is the most popular: full of saxophones and with a festive French touch.
