From intensely joyful sounds to chilling tones - Pulse and Breath is a concert of extremes. It promises to be an evening of incredible energy with three strong women in music: violinist Liza Ferschtman and conductor Mei-Ann Chen, and the composition of Fjóla Evans.

We begin with Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2. One of his more traditional works full of romance and melancholy, played by top Dutch violinist Liza Ferschtman. Then the Dutch premiere of "Lung," with which the Canadian and Icelandic Evans won the 2020 Gaudeamus Award. As a finale, the enigmatic Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar. The intensity of this concert is enhanced by conductor Mei-Ann Chen: as a musician as well as an audience, you cannot escape her energy.

"Ferschtman's sound is big and rich, full of personality and fizzing with ideas"
