Every year around Easter, several performances of Bach's passion are held in the Pieterskerk Leiden. The Pieterskerk Leiden is delighted with increasing attention: from all over the country enthusiasts, including Prime Minister Rutte and other politicians from The Hague, come to Leiden to enjoy this highlight of music history in the beautiful setting of the Gothic church.
In 2023 the Nederlands Kamerkoor, the Residentie Orkest and the Haags Matrozenkoor will perform the Matthäus at the invitation of the Pieterskerk Leiden. The Nederlands Kamerkoor has been a household name for over eighty years and has been at the world's top for decades. With the Christmas Oratorio, the Nederlands Kamerkoor has made a furor in recent years in the Pieterskerk Leiden: the concerts draw full houses and were praised by press and public. The renowned, more than one hundred year old Residentie Orkest proves that symphonic music in the 21st century for a large and wide audience is of great significance. The ensemble is conducted by conductor Matthew Halls.
