Swift, Grey and Spacious
Cello Biennale
Unfortunately, this concert has already taken place. But not to worry! We will be playing many more concerts soon.
The new Cello Concerto composed by Martijn Padding for Matt Haimovitz was scheduled to premiere in 2020, but like many fine projects had to be cancelled at the Last moment. Orchestra and soloist look forward to the postponed premiere!
Jean-Guihen Queyras has long cherished the desire to perform Béla Bartók's Viola Concerto on cello - an idea that even inspired the 2020 Biennale's theme, The Cello Takes Over. Now his wish is finally coming true.
The two cello concertos are preceded by the Quartet for four cellos by the most important Polish composer of the twentieth century Grażyna Bacewicz.
