Every year around Easter, several performances of Bach's oratorio are held in the Pieterskerk Leiden. The Pieterskerk Leiden is delighted with increasing attention: from all over the country, enthusiasts, including Prime Minister Rutte and other politicians from The Hague, come to Leiden to enjoy this highlight of musical history in the beautiful setting of the Gothic church.

In 2024, the Netherlands Chamber Choir, the Residentie Orkest and the Haags Matrozenkoor will perform the Matthäus at the invitation of the Pieterskerk Leiden. The Netherlands Chamber Choir has been a household name for over 80 years and has been at the world's top for decades. With the Weihnachts-Oratorium the Netherlands Chamber Choir made a furor in recent years in the Pieterskerk Leiden: the concerts draw full houses and garnered praise from press and public. The renowned Residentie Orkest proves that symphonic music is also in the 21st century for a large and wide audience of great significance. The whole ensemble is conducted by conductor Richard Egarr.
