Unfortunately, this concert has already taken place. But not to worry! We will be playing many more concerts soon.

Please note that a Starter will take place prior to this concert. You can attend this in the Swing on the second floor to the left of the cloakroom.

"I love the mystical sounds heard in the fields and forests, in the mountains and on the lakes," wrote Finland's Jean Sibelius. He felt more than justified in being described as an artist of nature. So with eyes closed, we hear the black water, the dense fog, and the slow, heavy steps of the moose in his Violin Concerto. Equally, the work is full of soft sunlight. We hear this dichotomy in a different way in Tchaikovsky's Fifth , in which gloom is transformed into hope.

It is a more frequently played repertoire, the combination of these two great works of musical literature. But for good reason: heaviness and light belong to the depths of the dark days, during the Christmas season. The American violinist Stefan Jackiw meets our chief conductor Anja Bihlmaier for the first time in this concert. This much sought-after soloist promises to make Sibelius' Violin Concerto unsurpassed.

World premiere
Especially for this concert, Calliope Tsoupaki, Composer of the Fatherland until 2021, has written the new workPerasma, commissioned by the Residentie Orkest. Tonight the world premiere will be heard at the Concert Hall in Amare.

Tsoupaki was looking forward to a renewed collaboration with the Residentie Orkest after the orchestral premiere of her composition Thin Air(performed in April 2021). WithPerasma, she wants to bring out the warm sounds of the orchestra. The new work has many different layers, both musically and in terms of meaning.Perasma is a term/word that has its origins in the Greek language and mythology. It refers to a moment in life when one realizes that you cannot get the past back, no matter how much you want to. But at the same time, you are open to the future, even though you don't yet know what it will bring. Tsoupaki's new work is therefore an experience with room for one's own interpretation.

"Stefan Jackiw is one of the most insightful violinists of his generation"
