Unfortunately, this concert has already taken place. But not to worry! We will be playing many more concerts soon.
It Residentie Orkest tonight, hear two refined and hopeful works by Gabriel Fauré from the French late romantic period: Pelléas et Mélisandre and Nocturne . They frame the lively Oboe Concerto by Richard Strauss. An ultimate work, in which soloist Roger Cramers lets the oboe shine in all its guises: singing in tender, drawn-out melodies, but also dancing and frolicking exuberantly.
The evening ends with Felix Mendelssohn's masterful Fifth Symphony - a tribute to the Reformation, which was initiated in Germany by Martin Luther. This work, like many of our orchestra's repertoire, is played less often but is nevertheless a classical heavyweight. Conductor James Feddeck takes the stage for this. This young American has previously won several prizes and is widely praised for the love of music that he radiates.
