Unfortunately, this concert has already taken place. But not to worry! We will be playing many more concerts soon.

Fresh, vital and grand, this Great One. Schubert's Ninth Symphony proved to be his swan song - although it is a fresh and radiant work in which the joy of life can be clearly heard. Glory can also be heard in Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto (who, incidentally, performed Schubert's last work for the first time). Top soloist Tobias Feldmann plays this well-known violin concerto, which catapulted Mendelssohn to eternal fame.

Opposite the Violin Concerto is Overture No. 1 by Louise Farrenc; a fortunately increasingly common name on concert posters. In her day she was top pianist, the only female professor at the Paris Conservatory in the entire nineteenth century, and her work was praised by Schumann and Fétis. It is only right, then, that we should hear her work more and more often, including tonight at the Residentie Orkest. Richard Egarr, our passionate regular guest conductor, takes us on a journey into romanticism. As if the sun never sets again.

"Tobias Feldmann is clearly a musician with a distinctive voice"

"This is a charming, but where it belongs, also solemn, sonorous and impressive performance. An asset to the discography of this masterpiece."
