Artist in residence
Mozart & Mendelssohn

Unfortunately, this concert has already taken place. But not to worry! We will be playing many more concerts soon.
Virtuosity, energy and depth in dazzling concertos, including by the two prodigies Mendelssohn and Mozart. From the former we hear a romantic work he wrote at the age of fifteen: the First Symphony. We also hear Dallapiccola and Webern who, with two fascinating, much under-performed compositions, open our ears to Mozart's compelling Piano Concerto.
With the performance of Mendelssohn's First, conductor Anja Bihlmaier invites her great love to The Hague. This early work is preceded by the Piano Concerto No. 20, inspiringly set by soloist Yeol Eum Son, our artist in residence. She is known for her sparkling, bright Mozart interpretations - we cannot bring her into our home without playing a piano concerto by him. Her touch and sound is so pure, free and without ego; perfect for one of the greatest (and most dramatic) works ever written by this Viennese master.

"Korean pianist Yeol Eum Son played Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20, with light, fine-pointed energy and agile precision, the whole buoyed by an engaging musical spirit."
