More about Jacomine
I actually wanted to play violin, no idea what a viola was. Unfortunately, at the music school there was no more room for violin. Then I started viola and I never stopped!
1998
With Bruno Giuranna at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin, with Jürgen Kussmaul at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. Master classes with Yuri Bashmet and Milan Skampa, among others.
The beauty of our profession is that we have so much variety. So I find it very difficult to name one favorite composer. Someone who always writes very fine lines for the viola is Johannes Brahms. Both in his chamber music and in his symphonic works. He lets us play colors but also melodic lines.
What do I like to listen to?
Bach - Matthew Passion, "Erbarme dich" (performance Philippe Herreweghe with Andreas Scholl). Great voice, so pure and clean, fitting for a work that brings so many together.
Beethoven - Symphony No. 7, Part 2 (Allegretto). Talk about viola lines!
Brahms - Symphony No. 3, Part 3 (Poco allegretto). Brahms at his finest!
Ramses Shaffy - Zing-fight-huil-bid-laugh-work-wonder. Ramses' lyrics are simple but still so relevant. When I just moved to rooms in Amsterdam, I heard him regularly in cafes.
Pentatonix - Hallelujah. Just a great sing-along
