Unfortunately, this concert has already taken place. But not to worry! We will be playing many more concerts soon.
The mere return to The Hague of Japanese grandmaster Yutaka Sado is very special. The conductor made his debut with us in 1998. Yutaka Sado brings with him from his home country pianist Kyohei Sorita, ardent advocate of Rachmaninov's actually under-performed Fourth Piano Concerto .
Yutaka Sado still studied with Leonard Bernstein. The chief conductor of the Austrian Tonkünstler Orchester travels around the world. Pianist Kyohei Sorita is winner of the prestigious Chopin Competition in Warsaw, among others. After the overwhelming Fourth Piano Concerto by Rachmaninov, the top conductor sets you thinking with Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony: is the 20th century Russian composer for or against the Soviet regime? The atmosphere of the symphony is heroic, smooth and playful, but under the skin also ironic and indefinable. A bit ambiguous all around. But supporters and opponents of the communists were impressed. It is now one of the best-known symphonies and, above all, one of the most spectacular orchestral works ever written.
