Classics and a world premiere
Wouter meets Rembrandt

Tonight our concertmaster Wouter Vossen meets the extraordinary jazz pianist and composer Rembrandt Frerichs in the Nieuwe Kerk. They will perform the classics of chamber music: Mozart's Adagio & Fugue and Haydn's Symphony No. 94. These pieces flank the world premiere of Frerich's Third Piano Concerto. Our townsman is known for his quirky music, with innovative style combinations - from jazz to classical.
Thus, the Residentie Orkest combines the new with the familiar; we like to keep our audience on their toes. The choice of Symphony No. 94 is therefore not accidental. The famous "surprise" that the great Austrian incorporated into it to startle the audience betrays the composer's sense of humor. Grieg's Last Spring precedes it, evoking a playful but at times fairy-tale image of melting snow.

"Rembrandt Frerichs' playing is as memorable as his first name: a young musician with remarkable chops who's also developed an easily-recognizable personal style."
