An afternoon of sound experiences
Saint-Saëns & Rachmaninov

An afternoon of sound experiences that will leave no listener untouched. Tonight, our artist in residence, Yeol Eum Son, will solo in the very popular Second Piano Concerto by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns. An extraordinary work that builds from a quiet solo to an energetic middle where the joie de vivre bursts forth, only to end in a whirlwind. Extra special: the composer put this piece to paper in just seventeen days.
The passionate Spanish Pablo González labels Son as one of his favorite pianists to work with. He also puts on his lectern a special repertoire from his homeland: the poetic and symphonic Liliana by Enrique Granados (which, by the way, Gonzalez recorded on CD with his orchestra in Barcelona several years ago). After intermission, we hear Sergei Rachmaninov's last completed work: the Symphonic Dances. A generous and exuberant work - with a kind of self-confidence that the usually subdued composer did not show before - that reflects on his life's journey.
